FROM THOMAS LINDSEY:
Thomas, how did you find Dave’s tweeter or e-mail ?
As I am a big fan of Eurythmics I would follow Dave’s posts on twitter. He is always involved in cool projects, so that’s how you kept yourself “In the know” as a fan in 2010. We have soo many outlets now that it’s kind of hard to know where to look to see what your favorite artists are working on.
Thomas, how did you find the courage for sending him your songs ?
I had said for a while “I would only want to work with Dave if I ever had the chance to make an album”. He understands the blues, I loved the music he made, and no one ever had a bad thing to say about working with him. I decided to send him a tweet just to see what he thought about my song. I sent the tweet, said a little prayer “Lord if it’s your will.”, and then went to bed.
What were those songs ?
It was a song I had written called Lost in the shadows, and another one called Can’t stop believin.
Is your story a dream became true ?
It is and a treasure from God that I will always cherish. It’s weird because I had been saying for a while “Dave is the only one who I would want to work with” and then it happened. I think its proof that if you dream, if you can see it in your mind, it can happen. We must dream, otherwise we are simply existing. When someone says you can’t do something let that be fuel to continue dreaming!
What are your influences ?
That could be a long list! I love soul music. To name a few Eurythmics, Annie Lennox, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Al Green, Cher, Patti Labelle. Many others have influenced me in one way or another.
Thomas, how did you started to sing ?
The earliest I remember it was in second year of grade school. We had a wonderful music teacher Mrs. Jones who would play the piano, sing and we would all sing with her. She would be playing and point out to us “Now you’ve got it”. I’ll never forget that. She pointed to me and said “Now you’ve got it”. It was for me in that moment you realize you’re singing not with your speaking voice, but from a different place, your soul.
How did you feel when Dave said that he was interested by your work ?
Shocked that he had seen my tweet, then very humbled, and happy.
Thomas, how is the music scene where you live ?
I live in a very small town so we have only one or two venues where artists can play.
FROM DAVE STEWART:
Dave, how did you feel when you first heard those songs ?
I KNEW THAT THOMAS WAS A REAL ARTIST AND THAT I COULD WORK WITH HIM TO MAKE SOMETHING GREAT
How did you work together for writing the songs of the CD ?
WELL FIRST I INVITED THOMAS TO SING ACAPELLA AS A SUPPORT ACT TO MY LIVE SHOW TO SEE HOW HE WAS ON STAGE. I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS HIS FIRST TIME ON A PLANE AND TO A BIG CITY (LOS ANGELES). HE WAS VERY NERVOUS BUT IT WENT GREAT.
Dave, we imagine that you are solicited a lot. May be you never heard the songs. Why did you decide to hear them ?
I TRY TO LISTEN TO MOST THINGS EVEN JUST FOR 30 SECONDS. I’M INTERESTED IN WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING ALL OVER THE WORLD.
You write all the songs or one of you write the lyrics and the other one write the music ?
THOMAS TENDS TO SEND THE IDEA OF A SONG ACAPELLA (NO MUSIC) AND HE HAS WORDS OR IDEAS FOR WORDS ALREADY WRITTEN. I GET THESE PIECES AND PUT MUSIC AROUND THEM, OR SOMETIMES I SEND MUSIC AND THOMAS SINGS ON TOP OF IT, IT’S LIKE HAVING A PEN PAL!
Are you starting a tour with the CD ?
WE ARE DOING SOME RADIO AND TV IN USA AS WELL AS INTERVIEWS
Are you coming in France ?
I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA , PEOPLE KNOW ME IN FRANCE AND THEY WOULD LOVE THOMAS AND OUR BLUESY VOODOO VIBE
Dave, you have played with a lot of stars, how is to work with a beginner ?
I OFTEN WORK WITH BEGINNERS AND ALWAYS HAVE EVEN IN THE 80’S I STARTED AN INDIE LABEL AND WORKED WITH NEW YOUNG ARTISTS
How did you define your music ?
I WOULD SAY IT’S BLUES AND SOUL INFLUENCED WITH A TWIST OF ENGLISH WEIRDNESS !
What are your projects ?
I AM MANAGING QUITE A FEW ARTISTS – THE LAKE POETS, MAHAUT MONDINO, HOLLIE STEPHENSON, VANESSA AMOROSI, JON STEVENS, ANN MARIE CALHOUN (VIOLINIST) AND HAVE MANY TV/FILM PROJECTS
Dave, how is the music scene where you live ?
LOS ANGELES IS EXPLODING WITH NEW MUSIC AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN THE HOME OF MANY ARTISTS, BOB DYLAN, TOM PETTY, STEVIE NICKS, ETC. AND I’VE WORKED WITH MOST OF THEM. MY DAUGHTER KAYA STEWART IS 16 AND IS ABOUT TO RELEASE HER ALBUM IN AUGUST AND BOTH MY SONS ARE MAKING ALBUMS RIGHT NOW!
